Raja Ampat is one of the regencies which are located in West Papua Province in Indonesia. This regency consists of several groups of islands, and the four main islands are Misol, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo. So Raja Ampat also is classified as an archipelago. The natural wealth contained in this island becomes a great attraction for tourists, so this island is the most exciting destination for a vacation. Many tourists visit Raja Ampat, both domestic and foreign tourists. Raja Ampat has extraordinary biodiversity in sea and land, which makes tourists interest in visiting there because of the natural wealth of various types of flora and fauna, incredible coral species, and famous diving spots in the world.
Based on several studies in Raja Ampat, this island is one of the best waters in the world because of the wealth of various types of flora and fauna. The diversity factor of Raja Ampat’s waters is due to the position in this region, which is between two continents and two oceans, and it becomes attractiveness tourism activities. An international conservation agency report states that there are more than 540 types of hard corals, more than 1.000 reef fish species, and 700 species of molluscs. Raja Ampat also has two species of Cenderawasih or (bird of paradise). They are the red Cenderawasih (Paradise Rubra) and bald Cenderawasih (Respublica Diphyllodes). This island is a sector of economic development in the field of tourism because many foreign countries well know the beauty of natural wealth.
Raja Ampat is an archipelago consisting of numerous coral islands and widely distributed throughout its territory. Many people call this island a paradise for coral reefs. There are several coral reefs whose conditions are still excellent, with a percentage of live coral up to 90% in the Dampier strait, Kofiau islands, Misool South-East islands, and Wayag islands in Raja Ampat. The types of coral reefs in this island are generally fringing reefs with gentle to steep contours, but also found atoll type and burnt or taka type. According to the results of research by conservation institutions, all types of corals in Raja Ampat are home to 70% of coral species in the world.
The underwater beauty of Raja Ampat is indeed a fantastic thing, and there are some famous diving spots such as Cross Wreck and Mios Kun. Not only for Indonesian societies, even the international community often talks about how exotic this island is. So diving in Raja Ampat would be the right idea to enjoy the beauty of this island closer. Cross Wreck is 300 kilometres east of Sorong city. With a depth of 18 meters, we can see directly the wreck of a Japanese navy ship that is still intact. Besides, Mios Kun offers a beautiful view of coral reefs and diverse marine life. Coral reefs that are at the bottom of the sea seemed to make it look at a park that is under the sea. Diving at a depth of 25 meters allows us to see marine life such as wobbegong sharks, sea horses, fusiliers, and many more. Also, at Manta Sandy, we can find around 20 manta ray fish in once diving time.
In conclusion, there are many amazing biodiversities with natural wealth and rare underwater creatures in Raja Ampat, also many beautiful tourist attractions scattered on this island, especially for diving spots to enjoy the view of the natural wealth directly. Therefore, with these various advantages, it is not surprising that Raja Ampat is considered the most beautiful underwater paradise in the entire world. Not only the natural wealth under the sea, but Raja Ampat also has many exciting things above sea level.
